Axios Features Richmond’s Wrestling Boom
A recent Axios Richmond article has spotlighted the resurgence of professional wrestling in Richmond, with RVA Pro Wrestling leading the charge. Founded by Timmy Danger, the promotion has garnered a dedicated following at Hardywood Park Craft Brewery, where events frequently sell out in under an hour.
According to the April 2 Axios report, RVA Pro debuted in 2023 through a charity collaboration with Punks For Presents. Since then, the promotion has expanded its reach, hosting events at venues like The ParkRVA. Notably, RVA Pro has partnered with the Richmond Flying Squirrels for wrestling matches at The Diamond. Their next event there is scheduled for April 18, featuring matches before and after the baseball game, with free admission for ticket holders.
Hardywood event manager Adam Stockton noted the surging demand, stating, "We’re selling out in an hour or less."
Danger, inspired by wrestling icons like Ric Flair and The Undertaker, reflected on his journey from fan to promoter, acknowledging the sport's physical demands: "I can tell you trying to Power Bomb a guy in real life is very hard."
The article also highlights Commonwealth Championship Wrestling, founded by Ace Montana. CCW has hosted events at Parlay in Scott’s Addition and is set to return there this Friday.
With major wrestling promotions like WWE absent from Richmond since the Coliseum's closure in 2019, local organizations such as RVA Pro and CCW are filling the void, offering fans dynamic live wrestling experiences and revitalizing the city's entertainment scene.
