Richard Harris, known in the wrestling world as Black Bart, passed away on January 9, 2025, at the age of 76, after a battle with stage IV colon cancer that had spread to his liver. Diagnosed in 2022, Harris underwent chemotherapy treatments. However, in December 2024, he chose to discontinue treatment after his insurance ceased coverage, and he entered hospice care. His wife, Linda, announced his passing on Facebook, expressing her grief and noting that he was "Resting In Peace."
Black Bart's wrestling career began in 1975, and he became known for his rugged, outlaw cowboy persona. He competed in various promotions, including WWE (then WWF), WCW, and All Japan Pro Wrestling. Throughout his career, he held multiple regional titles, such as the NWA National Heavyweight Championship and the WCWA World Heavyweight Championship. Beyond his in-ring accomplishments, Harris was a respected trainer, mentoring wrestlers like John "Bradshaw" Layfield (JBL). Following Harris's passing, JBL paid tribute, stating, "Black Bart took me under his wing and taught me how to be a professional wrestler... Bart meant the world to me. I love you big brother. RIP."
