Caudle: "I’ve had a great life”
Part 4 in Mike Mooneyham's series
This weekend, Mike Mooneyham concludes his 4-part series on legendary Mid-Atlantic Wrestling announcer Bob Caudle.
Caudle doesn’t see himself as the greatest announcer of his era like many of his fans do. Instead, he lists Gordon Solie and Jim Ross as his favorites.
Mooneyham talks to Caudle’s fans, friends, and family to get their reactions on his career.
Caudle also drops some information on Jim Crockett Promotions history:
“The real turning point in the demise of Crockett … and I guess everybody thought it was great at the moment, was when he (Jimmy Crockett) bought Bill Watts out in Texas,” says Caudle.
Extravagant purchases, including Crockett’s personal jet, would eventually drain the company coffers and lead to its sale to Ted Turner in 1988.
The column closes out with words Caudle said many times at the end of broadcasts and what he says his wife is putting on his tombstone:
“Fans, that’s all the time that we have for now. See you next week and so long for now.”
