At DMV Wrestling News, we don’t typically cover politics. But Jim Cornette’s discussion of the Trump vs. Musk feud through the lens of wrestling storytelling — comparing it to a heel vs. heel or babyface vs. babyface program — was too compelling to ignore.
Jim Cornette compared the escalating feud between former President Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk to a poorly booked heel vs. heel wrestling program. He questioned how anyone could support either figure amid what he called a “battle of the Brokeback Billionaires.”
Cornette made the remarks during a recent episode of his podcast, The Jim Cornette Experience, with co-host Brian Last. The discussion focused on Trump and Musk’s increasingly public fallout over government spending, electric vehicle subsidies, and accusations traded across social media platforms including X and Trump’s Truth Social.
“This, we can’t pass this up,” Cornette said. “The breakup happens between the two most evil billionaires in the history of the world. Now their followers have to pick sides, between which f***ing billionaire that would set fire to them in a heartbeat.”
He framed the situation using wrestling logic, calling it an example of how a long-term heel vs. heel storyline can backfire.
“People realize they didn’t really ever like either one of these fs to begin with,” Cornette said. “You wanted to see the match because you hoped they’d beat the s out of each other, but after a while, you remember, ‘Oh, f***, we didn’t like either of these guys.’”
Cornette explained that in wrestling, such programs typically require one participant to be positioned as a sympathetic figure. But he asked, “How could you make either one of these repugnant cretins a babyface?”
Brian Last noted that many Trump and Musk supporters view both men as heroes. Cornette called that equally problematic.
“If it carries on long term, somebody’s gonna be more of the favorite, and somebody else is gonna get under people’s skin,” he said. “And these are two world-class experts at getting under people’s f***ing skin.”
Cornette, who has long criticized Trump, said he avoids regularly addressing him because “the tragedy has already happened.” But he said this feud deserved attention for its absurdity.
“We are the laughingstock of the world,” Cornette said. “It’s the richest guy in the world and the most powerful guy in the world arguing with each other on Twitter like teenage schoolgirls.”
He cited Musk’s public accusation that Trump appeared in sealed Jeffrey Epstein documents as a turning point in the feud.
“Musk tweeted, ‘Donald Trump is in the Epstein files… have a nice day, DJT,’” Cornette recalled. “That was the nuclear bomb.”
As the feud escalated, with Trump threatening to cancel government contracts and Musk briefly announcing the decommissioning of his Dragon spacecraft, Cornette mocked the entire exchange.
“It’s like Trump and Bizarro Trump facing off with each other,” he said. “We’ve got billionaires with control of social media, space programs, and political parties acting like they’re in a locker room fight.”
Cornette ended the segment by warning listeners about the bigger stakes at play.
“This presidency, whether it’s a successor or not, will be determined in 2029 if we’re still alive and have our personal belongings and some of our life savings left,” he said.
