"Golden Boy" Jerry Grey Dead at 62
“Golden Boy” Jerry Grey, a veteran professional wrestler and promoter who worked across several major wrestling territories during the 1980s, has died. He was 62.
The Cauliflower Alley Club announced Grey’s death Monday. Grey had battled cancer for more than a decade.
Grey, an Akron, Ohio, native, began his in-ring career in 1981 after training under Louis Tillet. He went on to work for promotions including Mid-South Wrestling, Championship Wrestling from Florida, Jim Crockett Promotions, Memphis’ Continental Wrestling Association, the World Wrestling Federation and New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
He also wrestled under several names during his career, including Guru, Mega Maharishi and Mighty Yankee No. 1. Grey found success as a tag team wrestler, including a run with Tom Prichard as NWA Pacific Northwest Tag Team Champions and later teaming with Bob Cook as The Mighty Yankees.
Grey later remained involved in professional wrestling as a promoter and independent wrestling figure. His cancer battle became public in recent years, including fundraising efforts to help cover medical expenses.
