Jax Dane, born Jackson Dane Laymon, passed away on December 25, 2024, at the age of 48 due to complications from a heart attack. Renowned for his commanding presence and powerhouse style, Dane left an indelible mark on the National Wrestling Alliance and the broader wrestling world. I was fortunate enough to see him wrestle at NWA 76 in Philadelphia earlier this year.
Billy Corgan, owner of the NWA, expressed his sorrow: "Jax Dane embodied what it meant to be a champion. His dedication to the NWA and his craft was unparalleled. Beyond the ring, he was a kind and genuine person who cared deeply about the wrestling community. He will be deeply missed."
Kyle Davis, NWA broadcaster, shared his thoughts: "Jax was the kind of person who could light up a locker room with his presence and then dominate the ring with his skill. He was a true professional and a great friend. His loss is a blow to us all."
Tributes also poured in from across the wrestling world. Tim Storm, Dane's longtime rival, reflected on their battles: "Jax was more than just an opponent; he was a brother in the ring. We pushed each other to our limits, and I always respected his heart and commitment."
Former tag team partner Crimson shared: "Jax wasn’t just my partner; he was my brother. Together, we achieved so much, and I’ll forever cherish those memories. This loss is personal and profound."
Nick Aldis, another former NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion, added: "Jax was a competitor’s competitor. He made everyone better by pushing them to rise to his level. Wrestling has lost a true giant, and I’ve lost a friend."
