Jerry “The King” Lawler, the legendary professional wrestler and longtime WWE commentator, is recovering at his home in Memphis after suffering another stroke last Friday at his residence in Florida, family members confirmed Thursday.
Lawler, 75, was flown back to Memphis following the medical emergency. His daughter said he is “on the road to recovery” and plans to rest at home for several weeks. All of his scheduled public appearances over the coming month have been canceled.
This marks the third stroke Lawler has endured in the past seven years. His previous strokes occurred in 2018 and February 2023; the latter was described as “massive” and required several days in the intensive care unit.
Speaking from his Memphis home, Lawler said he first became aware something was wrong when he awoke Friday morning. “I knew something was bad wrong at that time,” he recounted, explaining he didn’t feel the stroke as it happened but recognized the symptoms upon waking and immediately sought help.
Lawler has had a long and storied career in wrestling, first gaining fame in the Memphis territorial circuit and later rising to national prominence as a WWE talent and commentator, notably alongside Jim Ross.
In addition to his recent health challenges, Lawler experienced a heart attack during a live WWE “Raw” broadcast in 2012, from which he ultimately recovered.
Fans and colleagues have flooded social media with messages of support for Lawler’s recovery.
