Jim Ross Announces Colon Cancer Diagnosis, Surgery Scheduled
Jim Ross, the legendary professional wrestling commentator and WWE Hall of Famer, announced Thursday that he has been diagnosed with colon cancer and is scheduled to undergo surgery in the coming weeks.
The 72-year-old broadcaster shared the news on social media, writing: “Diagnosed this week with colon cancer. Surgery being scheduled in the next week or two. I appreciate your concern and support.”
Ross, affectionately known as “Good Ol’ JR,” has been a defining voice in professional wrestling for decades, notably during WWE’s Attitude Era and currently as part of the broadcast team for All Elite Wrestling (AEW).
This marks Ross’s second public cancer diagnosis in recent years. In 2021, he underwent 22 radiation treatments for skin cancer before returning to AEW television.
Despite various health challenges, including a recent fall that briefly kept him off the air, Ross has continued working select AEW broadcasts. He most recently appeared at AEW’s Dynasty pay-per-view in April.
Support quickly poured in from across the wrestling world, with fans, colleagues, and AEW talent expressing their encouragement and well wishes.
