NWA 76 Review
NWA 26 took place on Saturday, August 31, at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, PA. First, I’ll share my thoughts on the show below.
I arrived at 2300 Arena over an hour before the announced showtime and there were fans lined up waiting for the doors to open. I made my way to the backstage entrance and got my media credentials squared away. I had a great chat with NWA owner and Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan and with several other wrestlers, most of them people I already knew. I also talked to Austin Idol about mutual friends and college football earlier in the day. I met Joe Galli and Kyle Davis from the TV crew and also talked to Blue Meanie who I had met before. He told me that he wasn’t there, an indication that he was making a surprise appearance during the show. There were several indie wrestlers there as guests including ones from CZW and other companies.
It was a sellout crowd with all seats filled and people standing. 2300 Arena appears smaller than expected, to use an expression I’ve heard about other places as well. It is an intimate setting for pro wrestling that still holds a large number of people. The show started with Papadon, who is the Virginia Heavyweight Champion in VCW, in the ring. The second match involved Shawn Carlson, who was cheered by boisterous fans who chanted his name loudly. There were some great matches including the women’s gauntlet match with Natalia Markova looking very strong with Adrianna Mosley making an impressive showing. The Liberty Bell Brawl match was one of the great tag team ones, as was Knox and Murdoch’s match with the Southern 6. The main event was a great match and EC3 was magnanimous in defeat.
The bar, concessions, and merch table were efficiently run. Everybody involved from the National Wrestling Alliance team was professional and efficient. I want to thank all of them again for their hospitality. NWA puts on one hell of a live show, and I can’t wait to have a chance to attend one of their events again.
