WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair is facing widespread backlash after a now-deleted social media post directed at veteran wrestling announcer Jim Ross, who is recovering from colon cancer surgery.
On May 31, Flair posted on X, formerly known as Twitter:
“Jim Ross Will Always Be Jim Ross, Seeking Attention. Focus On Your Recovery @JRsBBQ!”
The remark was widely criticized by fans and figures within the wrestling community for being insensitive, given Ross’s health condition. Ross, 73, had recently confirmed that he underwent successful colon cancer surgery and was beginning the rehabilitation process.
Flair later deleted the initial tweet and responded to the criticism with another post, writing:
“If You Can’t Take A Joke From A 76 Year Old Man, Then You Are Living Life Too Seriously. It Was All Harmless, Lighthearted Fun! Just Trying To Make People Laugh & Smile!”
The relationship between Flair and Ross has reportedly been strained since a 2013 WWE 2K14 promotional panel, during which Flair, reportedly intoxicated and grieving the recent loss of his son, made several off-script remarks. Ross, who was hosting the panel, was subsequently held responsible for the event's lack of professionalism, leading to his departure from WWE.
As of now, Ross has not publicly commented on Flair’s recent remarks.
