The family of WWE Hall of Famer Mike Rotunda has released a statement correcting widespread reports that the former U.S. Express member had entered hospice care. In a message posted by his daughter Mika Rotunda, the family explained that while Mike has faced serious health challenges, he is not in hospice but recovering in a rehabilitation facility.
The clarification follows an interview in which Rotunda’s brother in law, former tag team partner Barry Windham, mentioned hospice care while discussing the family’s loss of Windham’s nephew, Bray Wyatt, in 2023. The Rotunda family emphasized that Windham “misspoke, not intentionally.”
According to Mika, Mike suffered a massive heart attack on September 20, was in a coma for a week, and spent more than a month hospitalized. “By the grace of God, he has now transitioned to a rehabilitation center,” she wrote. “Our family remains present, hopeful, and focused on his recovery.”
The family acknowledged the long recovery ahead but said their faith remains strong. “Anyone who knows my dad knows that it’s his strength, work ethic, and athleticism that have carried him through not just this, but every challenge life has thrown his way,” Mika added. “If there’s one person I have faith in, it’s Captain Mike.”
The statement also expressed gratitude for the wrestling community’s support and asked for continued privacy while welcoming “continued prayers, good energy, and healing thoughts.”
DMV Wrestling News previously reported on Barry Windham’s comments and the initial hospice misunderstanding. That story can be read here.
