In 1983, Jim Crockett Promotions started holding Starrcade on Thanksgiving night. It was held in Greensboro for many years and it was available on closed circuit television in other cities. It later moved to around Christmas after the WWF started holding Survivor Series on Thanksgiving night and demanding exclusivity from cable providers carrying it.
There’s a good list of matches that one writer thinks are the Top 10 Starrcade Matches here. His list includes the main event at very first Starrcade between Harley Race and Ric Flair and his #1 is an obvious one to me - the infamous “I Quit” match in 1985 between Tully Blanchard and Magnum T.A.
