From Bruno Sammartino to Bret Hart, the Capital Centre gave Washington fans two decades of unforgettable nights.
For decades, Washington wrestling thrived in the Uline Arena, Griffith Stadium, the National Arena, the D.C. Armory, and Turner’s Arena – later known as Capitol Arena, the namesake of Capitol Wrestling. But by the mid-1970s, the sport’s biggest nights shifted just outside the city limits to a gleaming new building off the Beltway. The Capital Centre in Landover became the stage where Bruno Sammartino, Hulk Hogan, André the Giant, and Bret Hart all made history.
