Summer Slam Weekend Preview
SummerSlam weekend is almost here, and the greater New York–New Jersey area is turning into the center of the wrestling universe. While WWE's biggest summer event takes over East Rutherford, New Jersey, with SummerSlam on both Saturday and Sunday at MetLife Stadium, the surrounding region will also host dozens of independent wrestling shows, fan fests, and conventions from Thursday through Monday.
Things kick off Thursday with Brii Combination Wrestling holding an event in Ridgefield Park. On Friday, WWE presents Friday Night SmackDown in Newark, while House of Glory runs in Jamaica, New York. In Rutherford, GCW presents the WWE ID Showcase and Hit Em Up, followed by the Hardy Party featuring Matt and Jeff Hardy. WrestleCon gets underway Friday in Newark and continues through Saturday, with nearly 100 guests from the past and present in pro wrestling available for meet and greets. Xcite Wrestling also runs in Binghamton.
Saturday brings an even bigger lineup. WWE’s SummerSlam Saturday anchors the day in East Rutherford, while GCW runs a trio of events nearby: Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport XIV, JCW’s Powder Keg, and Emo Fight. Pro Wrestling Magic will also run that afternoon in East Rutherford, and Xcite Wrestling returns for a second night in Binghamton. WrestleCon also continues in Newark.
Sunday is just as stacked. WWE hosts SummerSlam Sunday at MetLife Stadium, and Pro Wrestling Magic returns in East Rutherford. Jersey Championship Wrestling holds High Noon in Ridgefield Park.
The weekend wraps up Monday in Brooklyn with WWE’s Monday Night Raw at the Barclays Center.
