1. Clash of the Champions IX: I Quit Match vs. Ric Flair (Nov 15, 1989):
Funk and Flair delivered a brutally intense "I Quit" match that stands as a pinnacle of their legendary feud - marked by piledrivers, neck-targeting, and Flair forcing Funk to utter "I Quit." Many consider this the greatest match of Funk's career.
2. The Great American Bash ‘89 vs. Ric Flair (July 23, 1989):
Another violent chapter in the Funk-Flair rivalry, this bout featured unforgiving brawling, neckbreakers delivered on concrete, and one of the most somber arenas in response to Funk’s intensity. Flair ultimately won, but the sheer ferocity elevated the match to legendary status.
3. ECW Barely Legal ‘97 – ECW World Championship vs. Raven (April 13, 1997):
Funk crowned himself ECW World Champion at ECW’s inaugural PPV in a twofold night - surviving a three-way dance and then defeating Raven. A defining moment that injected gravitas into ECW’s hardcore identity.
4. No-Rope Exploding Barbed Wire Time Bomb Deathmatch vs. Atsushi Onita (May 5, 1993):
In a match that blurred the line between performance and real peril, explosive barbed wire, drama, and a protective shield from Onita created a chilling image that still echoes in deathmatch lore.
5. AJPW Grand Champion Carnival I vs. Stan Hansen (April 14, 1983):
A forgotten gem - this violent, bloody battle saw Funk use every tool in his brawling arsenal, culminating in a disqualification finish when his brother Dory intervened. The crowd was legitimately worried for Funk’s wellbeing.
