The International Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame (IPWHF) is located at the MVP Arena in Albany, New York. This not-for-profit museum is dedicated to preserving and honoring the global history of professional wrestling.
Throughout the year, the IPWHF hosts various events such as induction ceremonies and fundraising activities. For instance, the Class of 2024 Induction Dinner Ceremony is set for October 13, 2024, at the Crowne Plaza Albany - The Desmond Hotel.
The museum features a diverse range of exhibits, including memorabilia, historical artifacts, and information about legendary wrestlers. It offers wrestling fans a chance to explore the sport's rich history and celebrate its impact on popular culture.
The IPWHF has announced its Class of 2024 inductees and award recipients. The inductees include El Santo, a legendary Mexican wrestler and cultural icon; "Handsome" Harley Race, an eight-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion; Jack Brisco, a two-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion known for his technical prowess; Ad Santel, a pioneer in the early days of professional wrestling; "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes, a charismatic and influential figure in wrestling history; and Kurt Angle, a 1996 Olympic gold medalist and WWE Hall of Famer.
The award recipients for 2024 are Rocky "Soulman" Johnson, who is being honored posthumously for his contributions to wrestling; Korey Wise, the recipient of the Medal of Mettle, known for his inspiring story as a member of the Exonerated Five; Mario Savoldi, who is receiving the Trailblazer Award for his impact on the wrestling industry; and Bill Apter, who is being awarded the Excelsior Award for his legendary career in wrestling journalism.
Notable past Hall of Fame members include Bruno Sammartino, known as "The Living Legend" for holding the WWWF World Heavyweight Championship for over 11 years across two reigns; Lou Thesz, a six-time world champion and considered one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time; Ric Flair, "The Nature Boy," a 16-time world champion and one of the most charismatic figures in wrestling history; Mildred Burke, a pioneer in women's wrestling who held the Women's World Championship for nearly 20 years; and Andre the Giant, renowned for his immense size and strength and beloved in wrestling and entertainment.
Previous award recipients include Stan Hansen, who received the Frank Gotch Award for his contributions to the sport and influence on future generations of wrestlers; Beth Phoenix, honored with the Lady Wrestler Award for her achievements and impact in women's wrestling; and Jim Ross, who was awarded the Gordon Solie Award for his excellence in wrestling commentary and broadcasting.
These inductees and award recipients represent just a segment of the rich history and diverse talent celebrated by the IPWHF. The Hall of Fame continues to honor those who have made significant contributions to the world of professional wrestling.
