Pro wrestling historian Brian R. Solomon will release his latest book, Irresistible Force: The Life and Times of Gorilla Monsoon, on September 30, 2025, through ECW Press. The biography is the first full-length account of WWE Hall of Famer Robert “Gino” Marella, better known to generations of fans as Gorilla Monsoon.
The book traces Marella’s journey from his early years as a standout collegiate athlete to his dominance in the World Wide Wrestling Federation ring during the 1960s and 70s. It also explores his transition into a behind-the-scenes role as promoter and executive, where he became Vincent J. McMahon’s chosen successor to own the company before control ultimately passed to his son, Vincent K. McMahon. Beyond the boardroom, Marella became one of the most beloved broadcast voices of the 1980s and 90s, with his pairing alongside Bobby “The Brain” Heenan setting the standard for WWF television commentary.
Solomon draws on extensive research, rare photographs, and a detailed timeline of Monsoon’s career to paint a comprehensive portrait of a man who helped shape the sound, style, and direction of northeastern wrestling for decades. The book features a foreword by Bret “Hit Man” Hart and follows Solomon’s acclaimed biography Blood and Fire about The Sheik.
Irresistible Force is being distributed by Simon & Schuster and is already available for pre-order through ECW Press and other major booksellers online. Pre-order now on Amazon.
