Check Back Every Day!

Be sure to check back every day this week on dmvprowrestling.com for updates on an exciting full schedule of indy wrestling action this weekend.

Wrestlers

  • Bianca Belair appeared on Huber in the Morning on 100.7 the Bay in Baltimore.

  • Ric Flair announced that he would be attending the Royal Rumble in 2023, and possibly wrestle in the namesake match. I also speculated as to whether he is facing potential legal problems with the BBC due to a t-shirt design that uses trademarks from Doctor Who.

  • One active wrestler and one forgotten wrestler (and reality show star) stopped by Jimmy’s Famous Seafood this past week:

    • The day after his Survivor Series win over Finn Balor, A.J. Styles dropped by Sunday night for dinner and to hang out with Gennadi Roomets.

    • On Thanksgiving Day, former reality star and wrestler Jonny Fairplay posted a selfie of himself outside Jimmy’s.

Indy News

  • Combat Zone Wrestling is hosting two scouting combines in January for wrestler tryouts. The first one will be on January 8 in Havre de Grace, MD.

  • C3W held their Black Saturday event over the holiday weekend.

Other News

  • For Thanksgiving, I wrote about the history of Starrcade, including the 1998 match held in Washington, DC that ended Bill Goldberg’s undefeated streak.

  • This weekend, Jimmy’s Famous Seafood hosted a viewing party for WWE Survivor Series.

  • Tonight, WWE Monday Night Raw will be taking place at The Scope in Norfolk, VA.

Sunday night, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat wrestled what was billed as his last match. His name was also bandied about as a potential opponent in what was supposed to be Ric Flair’s last match earlier this year. Now there have been reports that both men may get into the ring one more time.

Last night, Steamboat and the team of FTR faced Jay Lethal, Brock Anderson (with his father Arn), and a mystery opponent later revealed to be Nick Aldis in the main event of Return of the Dragon at Dorton Arena in Raleigh, NC.

Steamboat’s team was victorious in the match. There were several other matches, including a battle royal hosted by Jimmy Valiant.

Going back in time in DMV region history, Steamboat faced Lex Luger in 1989 at the Great American Bash held in the Baltimore Arena. That match originally had stipulations that there could be no disqualifications or count-outs but Luger asked for those stipulations to be waived and Steamboat agreed. Luger retained his U.S. Heavyweight Championship after Steamboat was disqualified for beating Luger with a steel chair.

Here’s video of Steamboat facing Ric Flair at a NWA house show at the Capital Centre in Landover, MD in 1989:
