  • Baltimore Celebfest 6 will take place in Westminer, MD in February. They announced Trish Stratus and Christian Cage as their first two headliners for the event.

  • I also noted this past week that Velvet Sky, former TNA Knockouts Division champion and current NWA announcer, will return to Baltimore on November 5.

  • November 5 is the date of the Maryland Toy Expo in Timonium, and the wrestlers appearing there include Mike “Speedball” Bailey, Ace Austin, The Rascalz (Trey Miguel and Zachary Wentz), Jordan Oliver, and Velvet Sky.

Founding Patrons

I announced a crowdfunding effort recently to contribute to the ongoing success of DMV Wrestling.

Thanks for reading DMV Wrestling! Subscribe for free to receive new posts and support my work.

I wanted to publicly announce that our first two Founding Patrons are W. Thomas Smith, Jr. and Scott English. Additionally, Scott English will be a producer on the upcoming podcast.

You can also contribute to the effort and become a Founding Patron of DMV Wrestling, and depending on your contribution amount, credit as a producer of the upcoming podcast. Please chip in with what you can afford to help make DMV Wrestling even better.

Mooneyham to be inducted into Hall of Heroes

There’s a decent chance you might not be reading this newsletter now if I hadn’t been a long-time reader of Mike Mooneyham. His column at The Charleston Post & Courier is the longest-running wrestling column anywhere in the country (since 1989). His first byline in a national wrestling magazine was at the age of 11 and he was later sports editor of the Post & Courier.

I recently have written about his four-part series on the Mulkey Brothers and “Mulkeymania”, with the last part of that series published this weekend and the link to his column is in the sidebar of my site.

I consider Mike a friend and even if he doesn’t know it, he has been a mennd inspiration for some of the things I am trying to do with DMV wrestling. I have bounced ideas off of him for this site and my podcast, as well as other possibilities I have explored writing about pro wrestling.

Mike has been inducted into the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame, the South Carolina Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame, and the Mid-Atlantic Wrestling Legends Hall of Heroes. The College Today (at the College of Charleston) wrote about him in 2016 and it sums his career up well.

Mike is co-author of The New York Times bestseller Sex, Lies, and Headlocks: The Real Story of Vince McMahon and World Wrestling.

He is also author of Final Bell: Legends of the Mat Remembered.

I would encourage you to buy either of these books or others that he has authored or co-authored and read his weekly column.
