I grew up in the Greenville, South Carolina area, and The Rise Guys morning show was at one point a regular part of my mornings before I moved to Maryland. It has long been a staple in that community, and the hosts have always embraced pro wrestling as part of their discussions.
This past week, Bret “The Hitman” Hart appeared on The Rise Guys and spoke directly about Vince McMahon and the misconduct allegations surrounding him. Hart said:
“I think Vince McMahon became a predator and used wrestling as his backdrop for all of his evil. It just tells me too much money can turn you into a bad person.”
He also commented on the current environment in WWE since McMahon stepped away from the company:
“From what I gather talking to younger wrestlers that are in WWE today … it has been tranquil and business has been better. Everyone has a better attitude.”
Reflecting further on the allegations involving former WWE executive John Laurinaitis, Hart added:
“I immediately thought and I still do, I should draw it all in a blackboard drawing… Everything that happened. John Laurinaitis and the things they were doing with that poor girl. Shame on all of them. That’s just terrible.”
The hosts—Mattman, FatBoy, and Paige—responded with appreciation for Hart’s honesty, noting how rare it is for someone of his stature to speak so openly about these issues in wrestling.
Hart’s appearance added another layer to a story that continues to unfold.
