Three Years Later: Reflections on Jay Briscoe’s Life and Legacy
A 2023 conversation with Ty Awesome, Tiberius Asante, and Shawn Hardy
I didn’t plan to re-share this.
But today marks three years since Jay Briscoe, Jamin Pugh, died, and I realized something sitting with it. A lot of you were not on this list yet when I recorded this conversation. Today is also his brother Mark’s birthday, which makes the date land a little heavier.
In the days after his death, I spoke with Ty Awesome, Tiberius Asante, and Shawn Hardy, three of his friends from the Delaware wrestling community. Not to relive the tragedy, and not to turn grief into content, but to talk about who Jamin actually was as a wrestler, as a locker room presence, as a father, and as a man who showed up for people without cameras around.
It’s a quiet conversation. It isn’t polished. It doesn’t try to mythologize him. It’s three people remembering a friend and the space he left behind.
If you’ve already heard it, you don’t need to listen again.
If you missed it the first time, this feels like the right day to share it.
For Jay.
