WFMZ Highlights WXW’s Return to Allentown Roots
World Xtreme Wrestling returned to Allentown after a seven-year absence, staging its “Homecoming” event at Mountainville Memorial, the venue where the promotion was founded, according to a report from WFMZ-TV 69 News.
The event marked a revival for a promotion closely tied to Afa Anoaʻi Sr., whose influence helped shape the Lehigh Valley’s wrestling scene. The return to Mountainville Memorial reconnected WXW with its original home base, where it built its identity and developed talent over the years.
Lance Anoaʻi, who debuted with WXW and grew up in Allentown, described the return as a homecoming in the truest sense. “I debuted here in 2010. My professional wrestling career growing up, I went to Allen High School, and it just feels great to be back home,” he told the station.
Leadership of the promotion now falls to Afa Anoaʻi Jr., who has overseen WXW since his father’s death in 2024. He said the event carried added significance compared to recent shows. “It’s honoring my father’s legacy, and I hope we’re doing him proud,” he said. “I’ve just ran over 100 shows in the last two years, and man, this one is different.”
The emotional connection to the venue extended to others on the card. Wrestler Sam Adams pointed to the familiarity of returning to the building. “When you just get back home, it’s like you never left. Everything just picks up right where it is,” he said.
WXW officials told WFMZ they plan to run monthly events at Mountainville Memorial moving forward, positioning the return as a long-term commitment to Allentown rather than a one-time show. The strategy focuses on blending established names with emerging talent while maintaining a consistent presence in the market that helped build the promotion.
The report frames the “Homecoming” event as both a celebration of WXW’s past and a step toward reestablishing its footprint in Allentown, tying the promotion’s future to the venue where it began.
