WWE’s Quiet Wellness Policy Shift Clouds Andrade’s Exit
Critics say nondisclosure undermines credibility of drug policy
WWE has released Andrade, ending his second stint with the company.
The 35-year-old from Mexico returned at the 2024 Royal Rumble after a run in AEW. His profile was shifted to the alumni section of WWE’s website over the weekend. Reports said he still had more than a year left on his deal.
Outlets including Cageside Seats and WrestleZone reported Andrade was suspended without pay for a wellness policy violation and escorted from a taping last month. WWE has not confirmed those accounts. Andrade has not spoken publicly.
For nearly two decades WWE routinely announced wellness suspensions with names and dates. That practice was meant to show the program was applied evenly. The lack of disclosure this time has drawn criticism from fans and analysts.
Silence leaves Andrade facing speculation that may prove harder to shake than a defined suspension. It also raises questions about whether the policy is being enforced the same for all performers.
The program began in 2006 after a series of wrestler deaths and congressional pressure. It was designed to address drug use and increase accountability. Critics say withholding details now undermines its purpose.
Andrade had been lined up for storylines with Rey Fenix, plans that have been dropped. His future in wrestling is uncertain.
WWE did not respond to a request for comment.
