Bob Caudle still lives in Raleigh, NC and turned 92 years old in August. He was the first voice I heard announcing wrestling when I was a boy and Mike Mooneyham writes of having the same experience in his column this weekend, which is the first part of a four-part series on Caudle.

Mooneyham writes about how Caudle got his start in local television, doing news and weather after initially hosting a children’s show in Wilmington, NC. He then hosted a local wrestling studio show in Savannah, GA before moving to WRAL in Raleigh, NC.

Caudle was the weatherman for that station before later taking over the duties of sports anchor. It was then that he became the host of “All-Star Wrestling”, a studio show recorded in front of an audience at WRAL studios. Jim Crockett, Sr. later put him on the payroll of Jim Crockett Promotions and Caudle became host of Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling, the first wrestling show I ever watched.
