The article you are reading is about a Delmarva Wrestling Digest show that was held this past Saturday in Bridgeville, DE. This show featured numerous violations of Delaware regulations for Combative Sports Entertainment and other violations of common decency.
These issues included safety violations, no guardrails around the ring, underage wrestlers working on the show, and a convicted rapist/sex offender with access to the locker room. Now let’s get into the details.
The first issue to address is safety. Under Delaware regulations, it is the responsibility of the promoter to “[m]ake sure all equipment is in good working order.”
The picture (a screenshot) from a video that is circulating) at the top of this report showing the ring that night calls the condition of the equipment into question. I talked to one industry insider who said “That ring was atrocious”.
Delaware regulations also say that “A marked barrier, separating the audience from the fighting area by no less than six feet shall be placed around the outside of the fighting area.”
Numerous photographs, including the one below, from the event Saturday show that there were no guard rails or other barriers around the ring.
Delmarva Wrestling Digest LLC, which is headed by Marcus Waters (aka Kevin Wilcox) received a license for this event on Saturday in Bridgeville. To receive an event license, a promoter must submit a “Combative Sports Contestant Information form, which is a list of all contestants and alternates. Any contestant or alternate not identified on the application is not approved to participate. Contestants must be at least 18 years old.”
However, Sage Sikes (pictured above) wrestled at this show. As I detailed earlier this year, she is underage and was removed from a show in Pennsylvania after officials there found out. It’s unclear if she was listed on the form for Saturday’s event, was listed with an incorrect age, or was left out completely..
A convicted rapist, and registered sex offender, Jay Cortez (aka Jason Sweeney) was also present at the event at a middle school. He was dressed as the Grinch at the show. He also had access to the locker room where an underage wrestler was changing. I first wrote about Cortez when he was promoting a wrestling show.
I later wrote about the cancellation of that show.
I talked to someone in pro wrestling who commented on this show by saying, “This stuff gives us all a bad name”.
According to one person there, things got so bad that talent was leaving the show early.
I have reached out to the Delaware Athletic Commission for comment on the events Saturday night in Bridgeville. If you attended the show and want to make a comment, please send an email to dmvprowrestling@gmail.com. Also, I invite Marcus Waters to respond and I will run his response in its entirety.
